Volunteering Costa Rica is the sum of small gestures and actions that will make the difference for our land and our sea.
Costa Rica is a tourist destination par excellence from December to April, when beaches are traditionally very restricted. This massive exodus is seriously damaging the coastal state. The massive number of people on the beaches has an impact on its ecosystem and its immediate cleanliness. What few tourists and locals know is that regular maintenance of these is necessary in order to preserve them. Humanitarian aid from Costa Rica is an essential asset.
Several cleaning techniques exist. Firstly, there's manual cleaning, which is what we use at Arbol Essence, which is of course the least invasive method for the ecosystem. The machinery sometimes used for cleaning is incredibly efficient, even managing to collect oil waste. However, mechanical cleaning damages the environment more than it helps. Machinery weakens the soil and promotes erosion. They therefore disrupt the coastal ecosystem by damaging the fauna and flora. Finally, you will find yourself with a clean beach, but an impoverished ecosystem.
In order to continuously improve the quality of the beaches while preserving sustainable development, it is necessary to maintain them regularly. Starting with the simple actions of everyone, like bringing back with him all the waste he could produce during his day in a garbage bag that he would have planned for this purpose.
Billboard campaigns and awareness-raising campaigns thus serve to raise awareness of the need to preserve the environment and the coastline.
The danger is real, a cigarette butt in the sand can take two years to decompose and in the meantime it will release a multitude of heavy metals and chemical substances. A pile alone contaminates a cubic meter of soil.
Prevention and awareness thus allow the problem to be taken upstream and damage control with
With the help of local Costa Rican Volunteers, Arbol Essence organizes expeditions to clean up the beaches in the area of Osa and its surroundings. We plan to partner with organizations already in place to cover a larger area. We must raise awareness and promote the commitment of every citizen of Costa Rica and of all humanity. They will become like us, protectors and ambassadors of the environment, and this through simple eco-responsible actions on a daily basis. Join us at our daily events for this great mission of saving the oceans and its people, so that they and we can enjoy a healthy and safe environment for a better world.
